Wecryl waterproofing system for SKR Roof Dome

Wecryl waterproofing system for SKR Roof Dome

Westwood Liquid Technologies has provided its Wecryl roof waterproofing system for the partially glazed roof dome of the Competence Centre for Satellite-Based Communication and Information (SKR), in Hattingen, Germany.

Without a primer, the Wecryl system adheres securely to the bituminous underlay that acts as a separating layer. Applied as a liquid, it adapts beautifully and seamlessly to the rounded shape, just like a second skin, and homogeneously incorporates every detail. Any unevenness caused by the work and the system was smoothed over and the dome sealed in pastel blue as the base colour. The continents were outlined using a prepared film and filled in with a gentian blue finish.

In some areas the liquid-resin waterproofing based on permanently flexible PMMA resins had to be applied to almost vertical surfaces. In such cases the WestWood production department will provide the specialist contractors with direct on-site support, by adjusting the thixotropic properties of the material to suit the individual application. Once the waterproofing of the main area had been completed, 269 brackets for the lightning protection system were fixed in place. To prevent cavities from appearing, the gaps around each individual foot plate were filled and also waterproofed with fleece reinforcement. This created a seamless and visually smooth transition to the waterproofing for the main area.
