About the range
Farrow & Ball crafts its Primers & Undercoats to create a smooth, easy-to-paint base and a long-lasting, colour-rich finish in combination with Farrow & Ball topcoats.

Covering interior and exterior use, and a wide range of surfaces, these priming products are created with the same low-VOC water base, high-quality ingredients, and attention to detail that the British colour experts put into their famous paint finishes.

They are available in a range of up to four tones: Dark Tones, White & Light Tones, Red & Warm Tones, and Mid Tones. Between them, these help to enhance the full collection of Farrow & Ball topcoat colours, from the palest and most delicate neutrals to the deepest, richest statement shades.

Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat
New for 2023, this interior primer is now available as a 750ml tin – perfect for top-ups, small spaces, feature walls and more. It’s designed for use under Estate Emulsion, Modern Emulsion, and the all-new Dead Flat®.

Wood Primer & Undercoat
New for 2023, Farrow & Ball has combined three previously existing products into one does-it-all Primer & Undercoat for interior and exterior wood, including floorboards and knotty areas, whether bare or previously painted. It creates a smooth, protective base for Farrow & Ball eggshells, Full Gloss or Dead Flat®.

Metal Primer & Undercoat
This rust-inhibiting primer is designed for use on bare ferrous metal surfaces, creating a smooth foundation for Farrow & Ball eggshells, Full Gloss or Dead Flat®. Try it on gates and railings, metal furniture, downpipes, or radiators that need a new lease of life.

Masonry & Plaster Stabilising Primer
Farrow & Ball Masonry & Plaster Stabilising Primer is a clear-drying formula for use on masonry or rendered or plastered surfaces that are porous, chalky or slightly worn, giving more even and long-lasting finish for Farrow & Ball wall finishes Exterior Masonry, Estate Emulsion or Modern Emulsion.
