Stunning Bespoke Multi-Part Flushglaze Rooflight Elevates Historical Charm of Luxury Hotel

Matfen Hall, a charming Country Hotel, Spa, and Golf Course, has undergone a remarkable makeover as part of an ambitious refurbishment project. The Grade II listed building was enhanced with a Glazing Vision bespoke Multi-Part Flushglaze Rooflight, creating a captivating 'glass roof' effect.

The refurbishment of Matfen Hall aimed to elevate the guest experience while preserving its historical significance. The owners collaborated with Doonan Architects, renowned for their expertise in historic preservation and modern design integration. Doonan Architects' meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of architectural heritage made them the perfect choice for this prestigious undertaking.

Grade II listed buildings like Matfen Hall are integral to England's architectural legacy, requiring careful restoration to maintain their unique character. The restoration of Matfen Hall was approached with sensitivity and reverence, recognizing its significance in architectural history.

As part of the extensive refurbishment, Doonan Architects focused on revitalizing the two interconnected courtyards at the heart of the building. Previously overlooked, these spaces were transformed into vibrant communal areas for guests, seamlessly integrated into the hotel's layout. The courtyards now feature stylish bar areas, restaurant dining spaces, and cozy seating areas, enhancing the hotel's overall appeal.

Each courtyard underwent a unique design transformation. The lower courtyard, with its stunning Great Hall window, required a solution that preserved its panoramic views. A contemporary glulam structure with a glass roof was installed, maintaining an open, column-free space while preserving the courtyard's character.

Drawing inspiration from the building's architecture, Doonan Architects collaborated with Glazing Vision to implement bespokeMulti-Part Flushglaze rooflights in both courtyards. These rooflights played a crucial role in addressing specific challenges within each space while maintaining a seamless aesthetic.

In the lower courtyard, the challenge was to enclose the space without obstructing views of the Great Hall window. The Multi-Part Flushglaze system with glass fins provided the ideal solution, allowing for extensive coverage with minimal intrusion.

In the upper courtyard, precision was key to seamlessly integrating the rooflight with the arched glulam structure. Smaller rooflights illuminated specific areas while blending harmoniously with the architecture.

Collaboration with Glazing Vision enabled Doonan Architects to maximize the width of the glazing and explore solar control options, enhancing both structural integrity and environmental comfort.

Through the implementation of bespoke Multi-Part Flushglaze rooflights, Matfen Hall seamlessly blends historic charm with modern elegance, creating a light-filled space for guests to enjoy.
