Millions of children attend schools in the UK with dangerous levels of air pollution. Fine particles, known as PM 2.5, are the most dangerous form of air pollution because their microscopic size allows them to penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream.
98% of state schools in London are in areas that exceed World Health Organisation pollution limits. Over 3.1 million children are educated in areas with toxic air quality throughout England.
Metalcraft have developed a free-standing Ivy Pollution Screen, which is easily maintained and secured. The Pollution Screen can be easily fitted to most sites, attaching to existing railings or walls, or bolted together to form a perimeter green barrier.
Various studies including one from Kings College London, involving a single school, found the screens reduced NO2 by almost a quarter and one found they reduced particulates by 38 per cent.
A five month experiment by scientists from the University of Surrey measured traffic pollutants on either side of a hedge at a children’s park in Guildford. The researchers found the hedge reduced some of the most damaging forms of particulate air pollution.

Metalcraft’s Pollution Screens were recently fitted to a school in Haringey, helping to improve the air quality for our children. Please contact them to discuss how they can help you.
