Hoardfast for internal site rooms and welfare facilities

Hoardfast for internal site rooms and welfare facilities

Company: Wates
Location: One Sherwood Street, Piccadilly Circus, London
Overview: External weathering walls and internal site rooms/welfare facilities for workers during the redevelopment
Solution: Hoardfast Firescreen

Wates use Hoardfast to create external weatherproofing and internal site rooms during major redevelopment of One Sherwood Street, located behind the iconic Piccadilly Lights.

Transforming space in London’s city centre

The Wates Group is one of the largest family owned construction, property services and development companies in the United Kingdom. Wates Construction were working on the redevelopment of One Sherwood Street at Piccadilly Circus, transforming the space behind the iconic Piccadilly Lights into offices, shops and apartments.

When traditional cabins are not an option, choose internal site rooms

Wates required temporary welfare facilities to accommodate workers on site. Due to the site’s busy central London location, the use of traditional cabins were not an option. “The open site also required weatherproofing as it was imperative to keep the floor plate clean and dry to continue on site works”.

External weathering and employee spaces to enable works to continue

• 372 linear metres of Hoardfast Firescreen to form site office and welfare facilities, as well as external facing weatherproofing walls
• Hoardfast uPVC to form toilet cubicles across 3 blocks
• Hoardfast uPVC social distancing screens for 80 seating pods in the canteen for COVID compliance and employee safety.

Firescreen is a quick install 60-minute fire resistant panel, which can be fixed floor-to-ceiling or installed free-standing with weighted supports. Panels are available in a range of heights (can be cut around protrusions) and optional extras are also available such as doors and vision panels.

Our standard uPVC system is hygienic, lightweight, made from 85% recycled materials and fully recyclable at end of life.

One system, two solutions

The importance of providing a comfortable work environment and welfare facilities on site is paramount in an industry with recruitment difficulties and high competition in major cities.

Creating a clean, smart and permanent look to the facilities for both employees and passers-by, despite the temporary and reusable nature of the system was crucial.

Key considerations for Wates in choosing Hoardfast Firescreen was speed of install/demount and sustainability, alongside the ability for the modular system to be installed internally to create employee site rooms and double-up as external weatherproofing for the site too.
