Elliptical louvre blades for The Grand Oyeeman Building

Elliptical louvre blades for The Grand Oyeeman Building

This seven storey multi-purpose office block was constructed in Accra, Ghana by Nowak Developments Ltd between 2012 and 2014. Aluminium Systems Ltd provided their louvre blades to screen the roof top water tanks, and to provide privacy to the penthouse offices, in total over 750 m2 of screening was supplied.

The fire escape screening was provided by 145 mm wide elliptical louvre blades, set at an angle of 37° to the vertical, fixed in place with custom GRP brackets supported by vertical mullions running the full height of the building, and fixed back to the structure of the fire escape. The same system was used to screen both 3 metre long returns of the fire escape, with 45° mitred corners linking them to the front elevation. Two single louvred fire escape doors with crash bars were fitted at ground level, one in each return. The same system was used to screen a rectangular roof top area measuring 20 metres x 10 metres to a height of 2 metres, and also to provide privacy to the two penthouse office suites.

There were a total of 12 vertical mullions for the fire escape, each with an overall height of 31 metres. Each of the mullions consisted of 8 mullions at 3.5 metres and 1 mullion at 3 metres, so a total of 108 individual mullions were created, using ASL‘ s proprietary mullion profile, with joining straps to connect the units on site, all mullions were shipped complete with 23 custom GRP blade clips pre-assembled into each mullion.

The fitting of the louvre blades and corner units into the blade clips followed on immediately after the mullions were completed, and this took the team a further twenty working days, with a further day to fit the doors
