Boathouse sets sail with stunning timber finish

Vincent Timber’s Accoya, a modified timber, was chosen for The Boathouse restaurant at Loch Lomond.
The prestigious De Vere Cameron House hotel is one of Scotland’s premier hotel destinations. The 5 star hotel, a historic ancestral house, sits within 100 acres of magnificent, unspoilt parkland – providing a stunning backdrop to any stay.

Famed for its fine dining, the hotel has expanded its reputation with the launch of The Boathouse restaurant. Located on the water’s edge, it is perfect for relaxing while taking in the breathtaking panoramic views and watching life on the loch pass by.

Brief

The Boathouse required a highly durable and stable cladding finish that echoed the natural beauty of its surroundings and would stand the test of time.

As a key attraction of the worldrenowned hotel, the solution also needed to meet the expectations of the establishment’s discerning guests.

Solution

Following a thorough evaluation of a range of timber species, Accoya, a modified timber, was chosen. Supplied fully factory coated it provides excellent performance with a superb aesthetic finish that fits with the visual appeal of the restaurant’s surroundings. The result of 75 years of extensive research and development, it is the perfect choice for prestigious projects, such as The Boathouse, which demand quality, sustainability and flexibility.

In total, the restaurant’s exterior was clad using 10,000 linear metres of Accoya timber, applied in horizontal and vertical profiles, along with trims, reveals and corners. Elsewhere, Accoya also provided the finishing internal touches to the bar and restaurant areas.
The Boathouse restaurant highlights Accoya’s fast growing appeal within the commercial sector.

Benefits

Accoya is a very easy product to handle, boasting zero open defects to create a flawless finish for a wide range of coated applications.

Increasingly specified within the commercial sector for its impressive aesthetic quality and environmental credentials, it offers outstanding dimensional stability with a 60 year service life.

Using wood from certified sustainable plantations, Accoya is acetylated, with the wood’s natural appearance and strength left unaffected by the process. Materials used on The Boathouse restaurant were coated with a Cetol BL Sikkens water based acrylic coating and supplied factory coated to ensure fast installation of the cladding materials.
